Aspiring actress Megan McCluskey met Bruce Greenwood by chance on a golf course in Minnesota. She became an instant fan and shares her experience here for all of us:
I am an aspiring actress, so this was like a dream come true for me. I have to admit, I did not recognize Bruce by sight or name, but I have become an avid fan since we met.
I moved to Minnesota two months ago (in the Summer of 1999.) When one of my father's friends was visiting, he decided to take us to a beautiful golf course near our home called "The Wilds". There, my father and his friend were paired up with another two golfers, while I tagged along and watched them from the golf cart. One of them was none other than Bruce Greenwood. He was in Minnesota shooting "Here on Earth", and he had just finished filming "Double Jeopardy".
During the usual golf conversation, he mentioned his profession to my father, who immediately ushered me over to meet him. Taking great pains to find words, I told him of my dream to be an actress, and he shared some helpful hints and tips for me. I was delighted to find that this man, having met Tommy Lee Jones, LeeLee Sobieski, and Ashley Judd, just to name a few, had plenty of time for a conversation with a nervous college bound girl. He talked to me like he had known me for years, offered as much as he could, invited me to ask whatever questions I had, and treated me with the utmost respect.
On the course, being an avid player himself, he entertained our group by mimicking voices, showing off, and using a few explicit words, as all golfers do. After golfing, my father invited him and his friend for drinks in the clubhouse, so I could ask some more questions. He told me where he came from, how he got started, what hardships he faced, and where he was at this point in time. He told me of his movies, did a fine Tommy Lee Jones impression, and was more than glad to sit down and inspire me.
When I asked him for his autograph, he gladly assented. It is taped on my fridge in my dorm and says:
"Hey, Megan!!I will treasure that forever, because I realize that I have met an incredibly gifted and talented actor who helped me believe in myself better than anyone could.
It was nice getting a chance to talk with you, and the very best of luck whatever you do....
