In December 2000, Bruce was preparing for the big opening of Thirteen Days. A small group of fans decided to attend the premiere -- strictly as fans in support of Bruce. We planned to stand behind the fan barricade with a huge BG sign and acknowledge this most important event for Bruce. I contacted Bruce to let him know we'd be there, but I also stressed we expected no special treatment. His response was immediate: he'd be delighted to meet with all of us before the premiere took place on December 10th. Three people were flying in from the mid-West and East coast, I was driving down from the Bay Area and two other fans from L.A. would join us for the actual event. But almost predictably, once plans were set and airline tickets purchased, the Hollywood premiere was postponed 10 days. Deeply concerned for the long distance commuters, Bruce immediately set plans in motion for a private screening of the film at New Line's Beverly Hills screening room for all 6 of us followed by pizza, bottled water and an hour of "hanging out" with our favorite actor and his lovely wife Susan. Pictures and individual reminiscences of this extraordinary day follow:
