Coleen Audette, Pamela McKay, Ann Orr and Dawn Arnold waiting first in line to see "The Republic of Love" at the gala premiere held at Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto |
When Bruce's 2003 romantic comedy The Republic of Love was announced as a gala premiere at The 2003 Toronto International Film Festival, I immediately made plans to fly to Toronto for the event. Although Bruce himself would be unable to attend this year (due to filming in South Africa), it would provide me with an opportunity to see a film I'd been madly anticipating and it would also give me a chance to hook up with two website helpers who live in the Toronto area - Ann Orr and Coleen Audette - as well as an old friend and long BG fan, Dawn Arnold - who attends the festival most years.
It was such great fun. I went to 12 different movies over the week, spent a glorious day with Ann and her lovely family in Newmarket and joined up with all three women for various dinners and galas (yes, we did attend other events, too), but the culmination for all of us was the grand premiere of The Republic of Love, held on Thursday night, September 11th at Toronto's Roy Thompson Hall, usually reserved for symphonies. The photo above was taken as we stood first in line. There were five of us in all, as Ann's husband Michael and best friend Janet joined us for the festivities. Michael took the photo of us and the red carpet can even be seen in the background.
