Greenwood, who starred in Atom Egoyan's The Sweet Hereafter, Exotica and Ararat, said it was nice being in the city where the renowned Canadian filmmaker was raised.

"I've never hung out with Atom over here, only in Vancouver, Toronto and Cannes -- the life, you know."

At Friday's $300-a-plate gala, Greenwood surprised revellers with his skills as a singer and guitarist when he jammed with pal Don Felder of The Eagles on Hotel California.

"It was an excuse to get up," said Greenwood, who just competed flming I, Robot in Vancouver.

"Everybody had a lot to drink so I thought it would be OK."

He said he felt relaxed despite getting little sleep and joked that he was still "slightly lubricated."

Kid Rock shrugs off rumours...

When Bruce Greenwood jets back to Los Angeles, he'll have just enough time to pack his bags and catch a plane to Budapest, where he's filming scenes for Being Julia, Istvan Szabo's film adaptation of a Somerset Maugham novel.

"It's a beautiful story," said Greenwood of the film that stars Jeremy Irons, Michael Gambon and Annette Bening.

The Budapest trip is business as usual for the prolific actor best known for his roles in Nowhere Man, Double Jeopardy and Thirteen Days.

"I'm never home," he sighed. "I was home eight days out of eight months last year."

Former Eagles guitarist Don Felder and actor Bruce Greenwood (Double Jeopardy, 13 Days) jammed together, starting with Hotel California -- particularly fitting since the song is about how excesses can drive one to mental illness.
