hilip Seymour Hoffman won the 2006
Academy Award for his starring role as eccentric author Truman Capote in this
award winning film that takes place during the 1960s during the time Capote was writing his most famous book, "In Cold Blood," which chronicles the horrific murders of a Kansas farm family.
Rather than following the crime, the film quietly studies Capote himself and his disquieting relationship with Perry Smith, one of the confessed killers (played by Clifton Collins, Jr.), a relationship that ultimately compromised Capote's innate morality and destroyed his abilities to ever successfully write again.
Greenwood plays the part of Jack Dunphy, a writer and Capote's closest companion for over 30 years. Dunphy was one of the few people who stood by Capote through his gradual demise into alcoholism and self-abuse. The entire cast was first rate, however, with Chris Cooper as the lead investigator in the multiple homicide case and Catherine Keener (who was nominated for an Oscar for her co-starring role) as Capote's friend, the novelist Harper Lee.
Hoffman himself produced the movie and selected relative newcomer Bennett Miller to direct. The screenplay is by Dan Futterman based on the book "Capote: A Biography" by Gerald Clarke. Hoffman's performance has been universally praised, netting him in addition to his Oscar both the Golden Globe and SAG awards, while both Miller and Futterman were also nominated for Academy Awards.
Filming began in Winnipeg, Canada on
October 25, 2005 and continued through late December with some additional scenes in Los Angeles and New York.
