THE COLOR OF COURAGE
Linda Hamilton, Lynn Whitfield (1999, Universal, 92 mins., PG)
Calculatedly inoffensive, this solid fact-based made-for-TV drama recounts the 1940s struggle of the African-American McGhee family to move into an all-white Detroit neighborhood. Opposite Hamilton's well-intentioned neighbor housewife, Whitfield excels as the fiery, courageous matriarch, Minnie McGhee. Reel Goodies (1:26) History in action: A young lawyer named Thurgood Marshall (Roger R. Cross) righteously argues the landmark case in front of the U.S. Supreme Court. The Last Detail Screenwriter Kathleen McGhee-Anderson is the granddaughter of the real-life groundbreaker.
