(Canadian television series / CBC / aired 10/29/86)
Bruce Greenwood's second appearance in this popular Canadian television series came near the beginning of the third season and cast him in the leading role of Jeff Storey, a sensitive naturalist from the Wildlife Office who accompanies series regulars Grant and Nicole Roberts (played by Donnelly Rhodes and Ocean Hellman) to an undeveloped island in order to protect the bird population from a spreading disease. On the island they encounter Jessica (Kerrie Keane), a hermit-like painter who feels particularly threatened by their project, especially when her pet bird is diagnosed with the fatal illness. Bearded to add age, his role is basically the romantic interest for Kerrie Keene's isolated bird woman, but it's a ruggedly appealing and sympathetic role.
This half-hour series ran from October 1985 - March 1990 with three seasons per year and centered around a marine biologist and his two children as they fight environmental crimes. Greenwood's first guest shot aired in April 1986, early in the first season, while this episode ran in October of the same year. Though filmed long before, this episode's broadcast date coincided closely with Greenwood's initial appearances on St. Elsewhere.
The series has proved highly durable and still airs in syndication throughout Canada.
Produced in association with the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, The Disney Channel and Telefilm Canada.
