Fathers' Day was filmed during the Summer and Fall of 1996, and was Bruce Greenwood's first assignment after the cancellation of his cult show Nowhere Man. Although his name doesn't appear in much of the pre-publicity, his role was fairly large and became even larger when the principle protagonists were called back for an alternate ending in March, 1997. The film was called "An Untitled Father's Day Project" during pre-production, "Les Comperes" during principle shooting, "Father's Day" during the final days of filming and finally "Fathers' Day" just before its release.
