I play one-half of a couple...There are two couples in the movie and the first couple tries for a long time to get pregnant and finally gets pregnant and discovers midway through the pregnancy that the child has a heart defect that's going to make it unable to survive. The couple that Michelle Greene and I play try for a long time to have a baby, finally get pregnant and discover halfway through the pregnancy that our child isn't going to survive also because she has another defect. Her heart, however, is fine. So we have this tough decision to make -- do we donate the child's heart who's going to die anyway, or not? The child's heart is donated to this other child who survives because of the gift. Hence the title Heart of a Child....It's a true story and, in fact, the child who received the heart now lives in Vancouver.

For this kind of material, where you have to dig a little bit, Sandy is really sensitive and understands how to help an actor arrive at those places. And to make an authentic couple, it's that much easier if you know the person you're working with.
