Episode Synopsis

Day four deals mostly with Tina Blake's unexpected arrival in town, and it's the first episode with no humorous subplots.

As morning breaks Cass wakes up to see John across the room - eyes open and smiling. She's finding John irritating but persistent and he's insisting she work from the hotel room with her camera. Unsettled and without a means of support, Cass agrees.

Cissy and Mitch are still in bed and the phone is ringing. Mitch isn't answering it and wants to talk to Cissy but she reaches over him and takes the call. It's Tina - Shaun's porn-star mother - and Cissy freaks out. Running to the window she sees Tina driving off and lights up, much to Mitch's chagrin. Mitch is alarmed but much calmer than Cissy, who forces Shaun to get dressed immediately so that she can get him away from the house.

Bill is having an acrimonious conversation with Ziggy, who seems to want him to do something he'd rather not do, and Freddy and Palaka discuss Freddy's dreams concerning an enemy from Hawaii. Vietname Joe is trying to figure out how John knew his private war story and confesses to guilt over the death of comrades. He still can't come to terms with the miracle.

Cissy takes Shaun to the surf shop, ordering him to refuse entry to anybody who comes by. Kai isn't there yet, so Cissy goes to her trailer and wakes her (and Butchie) up with the news of Tina's arrival. Tina meets up with Linc, who pays for her services as a prostitute, but he suffers a strange illness that forces him to forego the pleasure. Tina proves to be a fairly decent nursemaid and they end up getting to know one another. Linc tells Tina about Butchie's breakdown after she left.

Returning home, Cissy storms in on Mitch meditating in his clubhouse. She's consumed with Tina's arrival, but Mitch wants to talk to her about his levitations and the surrounding miracles. She's impatiently rude and bitterly sarcastic, so when Mitch issues an ultimatum about smoking, she orders him to move out. He agrees and says he'll pray for her. Smoking a cigarette and watching from the kitchen window, Cissy calls Mitch on his cell and starts to leave him an angry message, but she ends up sadly watching him as he leaves the clubhouse with a bag, climbs into his car and drives away.

Kai walks in on Shaun smoking reefers and insists they open the shop and do as they're told. Tina goes by Butchie's place to explain why she's in town to see Shaun, and Butchie ends up listening sympathetically and agreeing to suggest a meeting with Cissy. Cissy is predictably outraged and takes it out on Butchie, who walks out. Cissy goes to the closet and takes out a gun.

Under pressure Kai lets Shaun know his mother is in town, then sneaks into the Yost home to warn Cissy that Butchie and Tina are outside. Butchie brings Tina inside and with Kai's calming influence Cissy agrees to let Tina see Shaun, who's pretending to be asleep in his room. Tina peeks in on Shaun and leaves, but Kai finds she can't deal with Butchie and sends him away, taking Cissy's gun with her.

John and Cass spend the day exploring a Christian fair, where Cass takes pictures and John becomes the hero at a wrestling match. Freddy and Palaka watch Butchie arrive home as they discuss an upcoming war of some sort. Kai returns to her trailer and angrily shoots at her radio. Linc meets up with Tina and suggests she keep him in the game.
