Episode Synopses
The continuation of Day Two deals with the aftermath of Shaun's accident and the subsequent miracle that brought him back to life.
Bill tells the family that Shaun seems better, and an amazed Dr. Smith verifies that he's fully recovered. Realizing what further medical tests could do to Shaun, Dr. Smith urges Cissy to remove him from the hospital as quickly and secretly as possible. In a scene played for comedy, they are unknowingly aided by Freddy and his dimwitted minion, Pallaca, the ice cream man, as they play tag with the press and public.
Meanwhile, Mitch finds he can't leave the hospital when he sees a horde of reporters in the parking lot and then realizes he must leave the car for Cissy. Cass has followed him out and offers him a ride home, neither realizing that Shaun is OK now.
Cass drives Mitch to the beach and even while juggling a cleverly concealed call from Linc, manages to offer Mitch some soothing comfort as he berates himself for letting Shaun surf that day. After a walk on the beach in which Mitch reveals much of his pain along with his deep love for sufing, Cass invites him back to her hotel room, but on the way over Linc calls again and tells her to get Mitch back to the Yost home as soon as possible.
At the Yost home, a crowd of reporters and gawkers has formed outside, so Bill goes out to attempt some crowd control. Among them are Freddy and Palocca, who have become rather unlikely guardian angels. Back at the motel, Barry forces himself to close the door on Room 24 and he along with Ramon and Meyer decide to take a food package to the Yosts.
Cissy keeps calling Mitch, but his phone is off, and she confesses to Butchie that she "went off on him" at the hospital. When Shaun asks to skate on the half pipe in the backyard, Butchie says OK and Cissy blows up at Butchie causing to run back to his room for a fix.
Kai and John take off to Kai's trailer where it becomes clear to Kai that John's never had sex before, but he does cause Kai to enter into some kind of heated trance that seems to effect others, as well - Barry, Meyer and Ramon drop their food packages and Butchie finds his brain "transplants" so hot that he can't shoot up.
Cass drops Mitch off at home and he encounters Bill outside, who tells him about Shaun's full recovery. Inside, Mitch tries to apologize to Cissy for his behavior at the hospital, but as he reflects heavily on his personal shortcomings, Cissy becomes impatient and sends him away, hinting he shouldn't come back.
Butchie discovers he can't shoot up and heads home where he finds his father stuck on the wooden fence as he's escapiing out the back. Helping him down he's confused when a somewhat preoccupied Mitch leaves instead of coming back inside.
Dr. Smith is troubled by whatever happened to Shaun, so he comes by the Yost home to relect on the miracle and to examine Shaun once again. Talking with Butchie outside he offers him some advice about his addiction, and they both watch as Shaunie comes out and joyfully skateboards on Cissy's half pike.
