Peyton Place: The Next Generation
|
(1985 made-for-tv movie; originally aired 5/13/85 on NBC)
Bruce Greenwood plays Dana Harrington, the son and only heir to the Harrington's millions, whose parentage becomes essential to the mystery involving the murder of Alison MacKenzie. This made-for-TV movie was the final Peyton Place production in a series of movies, made-for-television movies and two long-running series that proved durable and popular despite harsh critical response. Although publicity at the time centered on the nine actors returning to parts they'd created 20 years previously, Greenwood's part is larger than anyone else's in the ensemble and his romance with Alison's daughter Megan is the focal point of the storyline, as they may very well be brother and sister. Barbara Parkins - from all the previous movies and the second series - plays his Mother while James Douglas - from some of the previous movies - plays his stepfather, the man he affectionately turns to for support. Although the film was dismissed by most critics, it's an intriguing early look at him in a surprisingly large part for this stage of his career. The role capitalizes well on his blond young looks and those very individual mannerisms that make his acting so personal. Newcomer Marguerite Hickey plays his true love Megan while Deborah Goodrich plays the sexy girlfriend he dumps.
